Discover the World Ltd began in 1983 offering holidays to Iceland and the Arctic region. We have continued to grow and develop into one of the UK’s leading specialist tour operators to a multitude of worldwide destinations.
Today the company is still owned, managed and run by both Clive Stacey and Mark Leaney who founded the company over three decades ago. We currently have around 90 dedicated and hardworking staff and travel industry professionals, all with diverse backgrounds and experience which are a tremendous asset. Several members of our team have international backgrounds including Icelandic, Finnish, Swedish, Bulgarian and Italian. Our collective experience of travel is vast and our team have travelled extensively around the world. As such, we are able to offer first-hand knowledge of each destination.
We are proud to be the world's leading tour operator to Iceland and to the Icehotel in Swedish Lapland complemented by year round holiday programmes in Norway, Sweden and Finland. Further afield, our extensive collection of Polar journeys offers one of the most comprehensive selection of voyages on the market to the Arctic and Antarctic while our award-winning New Zealand programme provides in-depth travel options to suit both independent and small group touring, a service we also offer in Australia, Canada and Alaska. We are constantly working hard to improve our products and looking for new places to add to our portfolio such that 2015 saw the launch of St Helena and an expansion of our Pacific Islands collection, and in 2016 we launched Namibia and Southern Africa.
We also have Discover the World Education dedicated to providing quality, tailor made educational visits to a wide range of destinations that will engage students and teachers alike.
Our Holidays to Iceland
We have been organising holidays to Iceland for 34 years and have the most detailed knowledge of the country along with the closest working relationship with those in the Icelandic tourist industry.
We are also proud to have been the first to organise whale watching holidays in Iceland, something which remains a highlight of any holiday to Iceland. We continue to work towards protecting these majestic creatures and lobbying against the hunting of whales.
