Getting to Chile

General Information

International flights are not included in the prices shown for our Chile holidays. One of the reasons for this is because many of our clients prefer to choose their own flight routes to include a stopover on the way, or to extend their holiday with a voyage to Antarctica, or a visit to the Falkland Islands or Argentina.

Passport Information

Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into Chile and have at least one completely blank page.

Airline Information

The most commonly-used airlines between Chile and the UK are British Airways (direct), Iberia (via Madrid) and the newly merged LATAM Airlines (via Madrid or Sao Paulo). Other airlines and indirect routings are also available. Our specialist team are on hand to advise you of your flight options and put together the best itinerary and airfares to suit your requirements.

British Airways

In January 2017 British Airways began operating return flights between London Heathrow and Santiago 4 days a week. At 14 hours 40 minutes, it is, at the time of writing, the airline’s longest non-stop route and is the only direct option available between the UK and Chile.

The flights operate on board the most technologically advanced aircraft in the fleet, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. This aircraft can accommodate 216 passengers across four cabin classes.

Iberia, Spain’s flag carrying airline, offers daily services between the UK and Santiago via its hub at Madrid’s Barajas International Airport. With flight times, including layovers, starting from around 18-19 hours, it is a slightly longer journey than that with BA, but it can also be more economical.

The leg between the UK and Madrid is operated by a wide range of aircraft and codeshares, with the longer leg between Madrid and Santiago generally taking place on one of the airline’s Airbus A340 variations.

This relatively new airline was created as the result of a merger between the Chilean giants LAN Airlines and its Brazilian counterpart TAM. Together they form one of the largest airlines in the world and are by far the biggest carrier in South America. The main route options available between the UK and Chile are operated daily via either Madrid in Spain, or Sao Paulo in Brazil, with both choices offering flight times of between 17 and 19 hours - with layover.

The shorter legs are operated by a host of different aircraft and codeshares, with the longer legs usually taking place aboard one of the Boeing 777 or 787 variations.
