When to Visit
St Helena is located within the tropics, but its climate is kept reasonably mild year round by the South East trade winds. Temperatures average from around 20°C to 27°C, but can be slightly cooler from June to September. January, February and March are usually the warmest months, with temperatures reaching up to 32°C.
The high central regions are usually cooler and wetter than the low-lying coastal areas. Rainy season takes place from late March to early May, and again from July to September.
Wildlife can be spotted year round, but whale sharks and devil rays are in the region from January to March only, whilst humpback whales are most likely to be seen August to November. Dolphins can be seen year round, with the pan-tropical spotted dolphin the most commonly found around St Helena.
