This short break offers a fantastic chance to meet and learn from expert photographer Peter Rosen, the man behind books 'Aurora Borealis in Lapland' and 'Midnight Sun over Swedish Lapland', who has over 20 years experience in capturing the aurora borealis, Arctic landscapes and wildlife on film. Peter is an associate professor in environmental science and now works full time as a photographer.
Photographer Niklas Johansson will also be guiding and teaching some of the photography courses. Niklas Johansson has worked in the field of digital photography ever since Photoshop 1.0 was launched over 20 years ago. Niklas is also a talented musician, so don’t be surprised if you find him packing his flute and guitar as back-up entertainment should the weather be less cooperative.

Itinerary & Accommodation
- Aurora borealis, Astro & Landscape Photo Tour - Abisko National Park - 4 nights/5 Days Itinerary
Day 1: Abisko Mountain Station
At 16:30 you will meet you guide & photographer at Abisko, your guide will present the program and provide you with an introduction to the equipment that you will use. Then enjoy a 3 course dinner in the hotel restaurant. After dinner, travel by a sled pulled by a snowmobile to a nearby Sami tent where you get your first introduction to Aurora photography and hopefully an opportunity to photograph the aurora.
Day 2: Day at leisure and Northern Lights
This morning you will have morning to relax, download images from the previous night. After lunch you will head out into Abisko National Park to explore Abisko Canyon to photograph the landscape and the ice formations in the canyon. Once back at the hotel you will have some time to relax before dinner in the hotel restaurant. Depending on the weather, there are two options for the night. Either take a minibus ride to a beautiful photo spot or explore a new photo locations in the Abisko National Park by snowmobile. The options depend on the weather conditions. The aurora/night/astrophotography course will continue in both locations. Fingers crossed you will have a nice display of the Aurora. If the conditions are very good, your guide will also how you how to capture images of galaxies, the Milky Way, the Orion Nebula and other interesting objects in the sky.
Day 3: Day at leisure and Northern Lights
Day at leisure to explore the Abisko National Park or perhaps one of the winter activities available locally. At 14.30, your guide will go through the images you have taken over the last few days and show you how to edit your aurora images in lightroom/photoshop. They will also show you how to produce real time aurora video from your footage. After dinner you will head out into the wilderness of Abisko National Park for further Northern Light hunting.
Day 4: Day at leisure and Northern Lights
Day at leisure to explore the Abisko National Park or perhaps one of the winter activities available locally. At 14.30, your guide will go through the images you have taken over the last few days and show you how to bring out all the beautiful details of our own galaxy Milky Way, the Orion Nebula or our closest neighbour the Andromeda Galaxy. After dinner you will travel by dogsled into the wilderness of Abisko National Park for further Northern Light hunting.
Day 5: depart
After breakfast, check-out of the hotel and say goodbye to you fellow photographers.

- Northern Lights, Sapmi and Wildlife Photography Workshop - 5 nights/6 Days Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Wilderness Camp
Transfer from the airport to the Wilderness Camp where you spend the first three nights. You will be equipped with winter clothing, camera and tripod if you need them and meet your guide and photography expert. Your guide will give you a short presentation of the program before dinner. It will then be time for your first opportunity for Aurora photographing.
Day 2: Husky Safari and Aurora
This morning you set off on a husky safari through the snow covered forests. You will be a passenger on a guides sled and make stops along the way to capture the beautiful scenery. Lunch will be served over an open fire inside a lavvu (a traditional Sami tipi tent). In the afternoon you will have some free time to download images, time for private tuition and perhaps a wood-heated sauna. After dinner, you will go aurora hunting.
Day 3: Moose, ICEHOTEL and Aurora Borealis
After breakfast you set off up into the mountains to photograph the beautiful landscape and perhaps also moose. Enjoy lunch a local restaurant in Kiruna. Afterwards you will visit the world famous ICEHOTEL, which is the world’s first hotel made of ice and snow. Founded in 1989, it is reborn in a new guise each winter, in the Swedish village of Jukkasjärvi. A very nice location for photography! Then back to the wilderness camp for your final night.
Day 4: Sami culture, Reindeer Sledding, Landscapes and Aurora Borealis
After breakfast you will drive to Rensjön, a Sami village between Kiruna and Abisko. Marja, a Sami woman living in Rensjön will take us on an exhilarating and very unique experience. You will be allocated your own reindeer, then set off on a sled ride into the snow-covered forest and across frozen lakes, making stops for photography along the way. It is the traditional way for Sámi to travel and is a magical experience. After the tour we will eat a traditional Sami lunch around the fire inside a lavvu (a traditional tipi tent) and learn about the Sami life today. After the tour you will head further up into the mountains and to the small village of Abisko – famous for aurora watching. Settle into your accommodations before 3 course dinner in the hotel restaurant. Then it is time to gear up and head out into Abisko National Park. Depending on the weather the guide will choose the best option, either take a snowmobile ride into the Abisko valley or take a minibus to a nice photo spot.
Day 5: Mountain Landscapes, Aurora Borealis and Astro Photography
Today offers the perfect a mix of outdoor photography and tuition. Abisko National Park and its surroundings are an adventurer’s playground, and offer a diverse range of subject matter for great photography. Your guide will spend time showing you how to edit your images on the aurora and Milky Way, nebula and other deep sky objects. After a 3 course dinner, you will travel by snowmobile and head into the wilderness to a traditional lavvu, a wonderful foreground for the aurora, or a great subject to photograph in its own right. There will be a fire in the tent and you will have a chance to sit and talk about everything you experienced during our tour. It’s a wonderful time to reflect on our trip and spend time with new friends in the group, who by now know each other rather well!
Day 6: Check out and say your goodbyes
After breakfast, check-out of the hotel and transfer to the airport. Time to say your goodbyes to you fellow photographers. If you are on a later flight then the transfer takes everybody with photo stops along the way.
